About Slap or Slop

Slap or Slop is a crowd-verdict site for music. You get one track at a time and one question: is it a SLAP (it's good) or a SLOP (it's not)? Every vote feeds the public verdict on that track and the site-wide leaderboards.

Why it exists

Streaming platforms tell you what's popular; they don't tell you what listeners actually think. A play count can't distinguish "loved it" from "left it on in the background." A forced binary vote can. Aggregated over thousands of listeners, those votes produce something you can't get anywhere else: an honest, continuously updated crowd verdict on individual songs.

How the rankings stay fair

Leaderboards are not sorted by raw percentage — a track with five votes shouldn't outrank one with a thousand. We rank by the Wilson score lower bound, require a minimum number of votes for the all-time charts, and enforce one vote per person per track. The full methodology is on How We Rate.

Who runs it

Slap or Slop is an independent project run by its editor. The vote data belongs to the crowd; the written commentary on the blog is the editor's opinion and is always labeled as such.

The music itself

We never host or upload audio. Every track on the site plays through the official embedded player of the platform it lives on — Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud, or YouTube — and every card links back to the source. Artists and rights holders are always one click from their own page.
